WELCOME TO THE STRONG SCENE CONTEST

So you're in a bookstore (remember them?) and you open a book to read a passage. Maybe it's the first page, maybe the middle, it doesn't matter. What's important is you probably made a decision about that book within the first or second paragraph. Something struck you--a phrase, or a comedic situation, maybe a conversation which sounded so real. Well, that's what this site is all about, bringing authors together to share their passages. Every month we'll ask for a particular scene from your novel or short story. It doesn't matter whether its published or not, or even if it's a finished piece of work. The type of scene will probably change from month to month. Opening scenes, action scenes, sharp dialog, no more than 500 words. We're going to offer a $50.00 Amazon Gift Card for the winner and we're going to attempt to do this without charging a fee. Along the way editors and literary agents will be checking in on the work posted. Some of them will even be honorary judges. The idea is to offer a new place to expose more people to your fiction. So bring us your best work and good luck.

  1. Thank you for starting this contest. What a great way to "air out" a scene. Trying to condense it to 500 words requires tightening something I already thought was tight. A great editing tool. Thanks again. Good luck, everybody!

  3. You know, there are far too many contests out there that charge entry fees. If writers enter just one contest per month, with fees ranging from $25 to $50, well that equates to $300 to $600 per year.

It's my experience that entering contests can not only bring cash prizes and garner recognition for a writer's work but also can cost an arm and a leg if you enter often. To the point that the benefits nearly nullify each other!

So, this contest - with zero fees - takes a huge load off of writers by allowing for recognition but also for the prize. I mean, really, how many books do you buy a year!? I buy tons and I'm always stoked when I get those monthly Amazon Awards in the mail.

Anyway, way to go, guys! What a wonderful idea.
